Senior Video Codecs Engineer
Technical leadership role in an early stage fast paced Silicon Valley startup in the video infrastructure space. The person will be responsible for implementing a RT-Video codec (VC-1 based codec) that will be integrated into a massively parallel multimedia transcoding system for a cutting-edge video communications service.
Responsibilities
- Develop software for Linux/x86 platform
- Hands-on code contribution and shipping responsibility
- Implement real time VC-1 based encoder and decoder on x86 platform
- Fast motion estimation and mode decision algorithm implementation.
- RTP video packetization and forward error correction
- Loss resilience support in decoder
- Drive implementation of components with complete ownership including coding, unit testing and delivery
- Coordinate with other subsystem teams for integration into the final product
- Work closely with software and systems QA engineers to deliver a high quality user experience for the product
Qualifications
- BE/BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science; PhD with emphasis on video compression preferred
- 10+ years of commercial software engineering experience, 15+ years preferred
- Extensive experience programming in C/C++ and assembly optimizations
- Experience in delivering commercial products in video conferencing and VOIP
- Implementation experience with H.264 and VC-1 decoder/encoder on x86
- Optimization experience with video codec implementations for communications applications that require bi-directional low latency, jitter management and audio/video lip synchronization
- Familiarity and prototyping experience with ITU or SMPTE Reference implementation
- Implementation experience with video codecs and RTP packetization in protocols such as H.323 and/or SIP
- Knowledge in current software-based video acceleration technologies – GPGPU (General Purpose Graphics Processing Units) from Nvidia/CUDA, ATI/AMD and x86/Nehalem SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) from Intel, AMDM
- Experience in integrating codecs from 3rd party vendors such as MainConcept, UB Video, GIPS, Radvision, Tata Elxsi, Aricent, etc.
